The Five Pillars of Islam are five basic rules in Islam that all Muslims should follow.
The Five Pillars Are:
- The Shahadah (Declaration of Faith) – Trusting and understanding the words of the Shahadah. “There is no god but Allah, and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the final messenger.”
- Prayer (Salah) – Praying five times a day, kneeling towards Makkah. There are specific ritualistic movements and prayers that are said.
- Charity or Alms-Giving (Zakat) – Each year a Muslim should give money to charity (Usually 2.5% of their savings). If a person does not have much money, they can do other things instead.
- Fasting during the month of Ramadan (Sawm) – Fasting is not eating or drinking for the required amount of time.
- Pilgrimage to Makkahh (Hajj) – Muslims should go to Makkah to worship Allah on a pilgrimage. They should do this at least once in their lives.
The Six Articles of Faith
Faith (Iman) is generally outlined using the six articles of faith:
- Belief in Allah, The Only God
- Belief in the Angels
- Belief in Holy Books (Quran)
- Belief in the Prophets
- Belief in the Day of Judgment
- Belief in God’s Predestination
Here we talk to non-Muslims about Islam. Would you like to know about Islam?
Islam is the only religion which insists upon worship of the Creator alone and completely rejects the worship of any aspect of creation. Islam dispenses with all intermediaries between man and God and allows every individual to contact Him directly.
Men and women can interact but the conversations have to be to the point and not outside as it would lead to temptations and such. Islam cuts the root of the greater sin at its initial stage.
My dear visitor, here we are telling non-Muslims about Islam. Would you like to know about Islam?
Islam is an Arabic word means submission and surrender. It means man submits himself to the will of God and surrenders to His commands to get His reward.
Islam is not a new religion. It is in essence, the same message and guidance which Allah revealed to all Prophets Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ismael, David, Moses and Jesus, but the message which was revealed to Prophet Mohammed is Islam in its comprehensive, complete and final form.
Islam is not named after a person or a tribe or a group. Its name means submission to the One True God.
Also Islam is the only religion in which we worship the One true God (as Uniquely One, Eternal, in No need of anyone or thing).
There are few things you should know before becoming a Muslim, please allow me to explain them for you in seconds:
Firstly the beliefs of a Muslim:
- Belief in God (Allah), the one and only one worthy of all worship and His prophet Mohammed.
- Belief in the Angels of God.
- Belief in the revealed Books sent by Allah to all the prophets that include original Gospel, Torah, Psalm and the last and final book is Al-Quran to all humanity.
- Belief in all the messengers sent by Allah (including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Mosses, Jesus and the last and final messenger is Mohammad peace be upon them).
- Belief in the Day of Judgment and in the Resurrection (life after death).
- Belief in Destiny (Fate), that all things happen by the will of Allah.
Today, the books before the Holy Quran do not exist in their original form. They are lost or corrupted or concealed. Weakness in the early period of Judaism and Christianity are partly responsible.
Today the Quran is the only authentic and complete book of God. No scholar has questioned the fact that the Quran today is the same as it was more than 1400 years ago. Muslims till today memorize the Quran word by word as a whole or in part.
God who revealed the Quran is protecting it from being lost, corrupted, or concealed.
So the first step of becoming a Muslim is to declare your faith in Islam, here is it:
I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship besides Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.
My deep sincere congratulations; It is a blessing from God to be a Muslim.
You may say it in Arabic as well, here is it:
La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadur rasoolu Allah.
From now on. You can start praying!
The “Five Pillars” of Islam are the foundation of Muslim life:
- Faith or belief in the Oneness of God and the finality of the prophethood of Muhammad;
- Establishment of the daily prayers;
- Concern for and alms giving (charity) to the needy;
- Self-purification through fasting; and
- The pilgrimage to Makkah for those who are able.
The 6 Pillars of Faith:
- Belief in Allah: means believing firmly in His existence, Lordship and Divinity, and in His names and attributes.
- Belief in Allah’s Angels: This is to believe that the angels exist. No one knows their exact number except Him (Allah). He created them to worship Him.
- Belief in Allah’s Books: It is to believe that Allah revealed Divine Books to His Messengers in order for them to convey to mankind. These Books contained nothing but the truth at the time of revelation. All these Books called people to the Oneness of Allah, and that He is the Creator, Proprietor and Owner, and to Him belong the Beautiful Names and Attributes. Some of these Books are as follows:
-
- The Torah: The Torah is the Sacred Book which was revealed to Prophet Moses.
- The Zaboor (Psalms): The Zaboor is the Sacred Book which was revealed to Prophet David.
- The Injeel (Gospel): The Injeel is the Sacred Book which was revealed to Prophet Jesus.
- The Noble Quran: One must believe that the Quran is the Speech of Allah which Angel Gabriel brought to Muhammad and that it is the last of the Divine Books which abrogated all previous Books.
- Belief in the Messengers of Allah: It is to believe that Allah chose the finest amongst mankind to be Messengers whom He sent to His creation with specific legislation; to worship and obey Him, and to establish His religion and His Tawheed (oneness). Allah ordered His Messengers to convey the Message to people, so that they would not have any proof against Him after He sent them. (And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad] except men to whom We revealed [the message] so ask the people of the message [i.e., former scriptures] if you do not know.) [Quran 21:7].
- Belief in the Last Day: It is to believe that the life of this world will come to an end.Allah says: (Everyone upon it [i.e., the earth] will perish. And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.) [Quran 55:26-27].
- Belief in Qada and Qadar (Predestination): It is to believe that Allah knew everything before it came into being, and what will happen to it afterwards. He then brought them into existence, all in accordance to His Knowledge and Measure.
